The spring 2013 Gulf Coast Power Association Conference was held in Houston this week.
This writer attended a workshop on demand response (as viewed through the eyes of folks
in the trenches) and sat in on the Tuesday morning activities which included a keynote
address from Pat Woods and a panel of experts regarding resource adequacy. It was time
very well spent. As we come to the table from the financial aspect of load structure and risk
management, our command of the intricacies of demand response and how operationally
grid reliability is approached is lacking. We brought away some broad strokes we want to
share. These are our takeaways, so don’t blame GCPA folks or the participants if you find
disagreement with conclusions.
